１．時間を無駄にしない

２．目標を立てよう

Set a goal: Make sure you know what you want to do after your college life ends and don’t forget to explore new things.You may want to become a writer and what if computer programming excited you? Don’t settle and keep looking for your skills.

大学卒業後に何をしたいかをよく考えておこう。視野を広めて、いろいろな分野を勉強しておいた時が、本当に自分が何をしたいかが見つかるだろう。

アメリカでは何回も専攻を変えることができます。興味がなかったものでも、勉強してみると案外好きになるかもしれません。いろいろなものを勉強するのが大切ですね。

３．過去問を見つけよう

If the requirement is an exam(s), find past papers and study the pattern of questions. Work out how those questions relate to your course (most courses don’t change from year to year). You can usually predict what will come up. Then subtly ask in the lecture if the previous pattern of questions will be continued, or if there’s a new focus or shift in this year’s course.

期末の試験の過去問を見つけて、どういう形式の質問が出るのかを勉強しよう。だいたいどのような質問が出るか予測がつくだろう。また、教授に去年と同じような形式で質問が出るかを聞くのも一つの手だ。

教科書を丸ごと暗記するよりも、出そうな質問やその範囲を集中的に勉強する方が効率がいいですね。これは大切な攻略法だと思います。

４．タダ飯はもらっておこう

留学生はアメリカで働くことができません。できるだけタダで貰えるものはもらっておきたいですね。

５．好きな教授を見つけよう

Find a professor that you like, and keep in touch with them often. Go to their office hours with questions, e-mail them, and keep them in the loop in regards to your academic career. When you are applying for grad school, medical school, etc. you will need at least one letter of recommendation from someone familiar with your work, and that can attest to your qualifications. And no, your mom cannot write one for you.

好きな教授を見つけて、積極的にオフィスアワーやメールで質問しよう。大学院や就職の時に、推薦状を書いてくれるかもしれません。

留学中は言語の勉強だけではなく、横のつながりも大切にしたほうがいいということですね。
